Pirates called it home, and so did some of us for a while…
THE GREATER ANTILLES*
Puerto Rico – amazing beaches, unbelievable rain forests, and modern standards. One of our favourites.
Jamaica – well known for its Reaggy Music, beaches, Appelton rum, beautiful mountains and even better coffee.
Cuba – well known by its rich culture roots, aromatic cigars, sugar, Cuban rum, beautiful-pristine beaches, hospitable people, and a vibrant nightlife.
Dominican Republic – the first colony founded by Christopher Columbus. Known for its reef-protected white beaches and placid waters, its music – Merengue & Bachata, and its friendly people.
Cayman Islands – great beaches, stunning sun-sets, world-class scuba diving and snorkelling (it is said that recreational scuba diving was invented there). Enjoy the Seven Mile Beach, enjoy golfing, visit Stingray City, explore Eden Rock & Devil’s Grotto, and so much more.
The Bahamas – consist out of more than 700 islands (only 30 are inhabited). The water is one of the clearest in the world – Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage, Johnny Depp, John Travolta, etc. can confirm – they all have houses there. Enjoy the beaches & the water, do some duty free shopping in Nassau, go fishing at famous Deep Water Cay, eat Conch Fritters (kind of fried shellfish), drink Bahma Mamas’, and watch the changing of the guard at Government House.
THE LESSER ANTILLES*
St. Marteen/St. Martin – a half Dutch and a half French island. Great for relaxing at the beaches or playing in the waves. St. Martin is also known as the ‘Culinary Capital of the Caribbean’. It has a vibrant night life, and great duty free shopping. Things to do: watch planes land and take-off at Maho Beach, glide over coral reefs in a kayak, get up close with a 50kg Marlin on your fishing expedition, swim with dolphins, go horseback riding along the beaches, and much more….
Barbados – is a sophisticated tropical island with a rich history, sandy beaches, and good restaurants. Relax on the beach, swim, snorkel, dive, take an island safari, visit St. Nicholas Abbey, explore the wildlife, take a segway tour, take a ride on the Atlantis submarine, and so much more….
Aruba – Why choose Aruba? Well, the weather is dream-like troughout the year, it boasts some of the best beaches in the Caribbean (some say in the world), has turquoise and crystal clear seas, plenty of space, and breath-taking sun-sets. When you tire of lazing on the beach, there’s diving, snorkeling, great windsurfing, and all the other watersports you expect. On land you can golf, ride a horse, hike, or drive an all-terrain vehicle over the island’s wild and woolly Cunucu (countryside). The Arubans are genuinely friendly and welcoming – the island is called ‘One Happy Island”. Don’t forget, the island is Dutch and the infrastracture is great.
US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix) – a favorite place for pirates over 150 years ago, and home of the Captain’s Morgan Rum. Stunning beaches, scuba diving, lush rainforests, sugar plantations, old forts, great duty free shopping all combined with a good infrastructure define the islands today. Visit Coral’s World, relax and swim at Magens Bay Beach (rated by National Geographic as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches). Take the tram to the mountain top in St. Thomas, take a canopy tour, and so much more.
Martinique – simply has it all. Beautiful nature, historic plantations & museums, scenic natural areas, bustling towns, and great shopping. Martinique is French so expect fantastic food and wine. Yes, the currency is the Euro.
